Relflection

Over the course of the semester in Literature and Sports i have read a couple of interesting stories. Most were good and some were bad. But when i read these stories it helped me improved in my writing and feel as if writing in a creative non fiction way has helped me write more effective because before being in this class i was only a decent writer. It was interetsing to read about other peoples experiences. Some may not consider them all about sports, but if someones life is on the line or if their is competition involved then yes the story does have to do with sports. When I wrote a couple of my papers I read through the literature book and i got a few ideas of how i should start my essay, how i should end it and how i should sequence it (putting the right stories in the right order). I felt that my papers were very effective and the people who read them in class enjoyed them. A lot of poeple have never experienced what I have and that what makes reading someone elses story more thrilling and exciting. I had a lot of fun in this class it opened up my mind to a bigger picture, instead of writing out something that everyone else knows about. This class was made for people top open up and write about something that was new, instead of something that was plain and boring.

Detroit Rock City

The Detroit Tigers have made a blockbuster trade when they traded six of their top prospects for Florida Marlins Ace Dontelle Willis and Slugger Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera was rumored to go to the Angels and Willis was a trade rumor to the Yankees but no deal was able to be made, so instead the Tigers jumped on the table gave the Marlins an offer and accpeted. Now the Tigers have an ace in the batting order and an ace in the starting rotation. They are now top contenders in the American League and the AL central. If you had to make a prediction the tigers will be one of four teams to be in the post season this season and maybe a top pick to be in the world series for the second time in three years.

Patriots Shoot Down Ravens

The New England Patriots were just minutes away from losing their first game of the NFL season, if they would have lost they would have been 11-1, but instead they are now 12-0. Their was about 2-3 minutes left in the 4th quarter to an excellent monday night football game. Everyone predicted the Ravens to lose by about 30 points because the Patriots have a tendency of picking apart weak teams. The Ravens werent going to go down without a fight in this game. The Ravens offense and defense were on target the whole game, but it wasnt until the end of the 4th quarter where the Ravens win turned into a loss. 4th and 1 the Ravens are on defense all they have to do is stop the Patriots from getting a first down and they win. The ball is snapped and the Ravens stop the run, but wait the whitle blows; the Ravens called a timeout a the last second. The play ahd to be redone. Every Raven player and fan went crazy. I was surprised no one got into a brawl. After the time out the Patriots went on to score and win the game. The Ravens had the game won and blew it on a time out. If I was the Owner of the Ravens I would fire Brian Billick and the defensive coordinator because the time out cost them the game and it was poor coaching.

Dolphins still winless, will they ever win?

Back in the 1970's the Miami Dolphins made history by becoming the first team to go undefeated in a season and the playoffs combined. A perfect 17-0. That was one record, now the Dolphins can hold another. They can become the first team to go winless (0-16). As of now that's what they might do because nothing is going right for them. They got Ricky William back now he is injured, they have no offense nor defense. So what are they to do? Do they fire the GM, the coach? They need to make some kind of change because as of now no one is going to want to play for that team in the near future if they start to become the laughing stock of the NFL.

Sean Taylor

In recent news Sean Taylor is the latest athlete to be murdered. Taylor died during his NFL playing career at the age of 24 from critical injuries sustained after being shot by an intruder at his Miami home. He was a a safety for the Washington Redskins as well as an excellent athlete who did have his troubles with the law in the past, but was beginning to turn his life around. He was on pace to becoming one of the best safety's in the NFL today. Sean Taylor went to the University of Miami where he was one of four freshman to be on the National Championship team. He was drafted by the Redskins 5th overall in the first round. He was the franchise tag player on defense as well as a defender and was well respected by teammates and opponents. This past week every team now wears number 21 on the side of their helmets in show of respect and memory to Sean Taylor. He will be missed every day, but will never be forgotten. Sean Taylor was football and the only way we will remember him is by still playing football. The bells have sounded but the cheers will not stop in Washington. Could this be the turn around to a disappointing year for the Redskins?

Santana and Cabrera??? Red Sox, Angels or Yankees?

Johan Santana and Miguel Cabrera are the two biggest pieces of bait on the trading block today. Three of the biggest sports franchises are interested in both. But there are three different teams going out for two different players instead of both at the same time. Johan Santana is one of the best lefty pitchers in the game today and Cabrera is one of the best 3b hitters as well a fielder, but most of his talent comes from his swing and power. The Red Sox and Yankees are in a biding war for Santana. Each franchise is trying to out due the other and are making some key moves into getting one another to give up more players. The only thing the Twins want from each club is a veteran and major (young) prospects. The Twins are sort of in a rebuilding stage, they have just lost Tori Hunter to the Angels are looking to get some young talent. With the depature of Hunter to the Angels the Angels now have one of the best outfielders, consisting of Guerrero and Matthews Jr. and also Anderson. With the addition of Cabrera they would be a powerhouse in batting, because all of there players hit the ball for homeruns. The only thing they need to focus more on is pitching. With Petitte coming back to the Yankees for one more year, I don't know if Santana is even on their wish list, but you can be sure that they don't want to let the Red Sox get him without a fight. If anyone knows the Yankees the Red Sox are going to have to give away a lot of their future talent just for one person.

500 Club

Martie Brodeur is the newest member to reach the 500 club in career wins, he is now the second player to reach such a big milestone, first being Patrick Roy. Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils are off to a really slow start to a new nhl season. The devils are not favored to win the division nor are they expected to get a playoff spot. The devils happen to be my favorite team in the nhl, but with injuries and new faces they arent winning and it makes me very imaptient and upset. It makes me really furious and i sometimes become very violent. Its the ony sport besides football that makes me have anger management problems. In my opinion Brodeur might go down as the greatest goalie in nhl history. He has the chance of becoming all time winner (52 shy) and all time shutouts leader. He is a future hall of famer and vezina trophy winner and 3 time stanley cup winner. Brodeur is on pace in my book to maybe become the first person to get 600 career wins. If he were to do so fans in jersey would treat him like a god even though he is one right now. He will go down as the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. No one will ever come close to the career that Brodeur has had for the last 15 plus years.
